RESTORATION AND EXPANSION OF A 100 YEAR OLD STONE HOUSE

The original intention was the reconstruction of a 100 year old stone house. The house is located in the PLA Poľana in the village Dúbravy part IVINY with a momentary building closure. It was found that in terms of financial costs, preserving the authenticity of the building and achieving the desired spatial needs of the investor, the most effective restoration with a sensitive completion will be. The concept shows the entire evolution of the design. The design solution shown in the portfolio is dedicated only, to the restoration of the original house. The chosen technical solution is based on and takes into account the poor thermal-technical properties of stone construction. Reconstruction is always an experiment and a surprise up to a certain stage; many things are only discovered during construction, after the individual structures have been uncovered. It is important to realise that the use of an old stone building in the 21st century is different from 100 years ago. Therefore, it is important to choose the right technical and technological solution while preserving all the architectural values that the building carries with it. The investor's requirement was to preserve the authenticity of the house with the construction of the required spaces. This led to the decision to build an additional building and to link the old and the new. In the old building, we make full use of the original roof truss, which we reinforce with steel elements. We are also modifying the layout and demolishing three doorways as part of the interior connection. In principle, the entire old building remains visually original. The new building is designed in such a way that it does not overlap with the old building, but at the same time it is based on the original form.
